Elizabeth Petersen is a Canadian soprano and music educator specializing in opera and early music. She brings a broad, inclusive approach to teaching, working with students in classical and contemporary singing styles as well as violin, piano, and ukulele. Her teaching supports musicians at all stages in developing healthy technique, musical literacy, and expressive confidence.
Elizabeth holds a Master of Opera Performance from the University of British Columbia, where she appeared in eleven opera productions with the UBC Opera Ensemble, including Si Feng in Emily Pan's Thunderstorm, which toured nine cities across China. She was runner-up in UBC's Concerto Competition and performed as soprano soloist in Beethoven's Choral Fantasia with the Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra. Her choral and early music experience includes Musica Intima, the Western University Singers, Laudate Singers, Capilano University Singers, and studies at the Canadian Renaissance Music Summer School, the Victoria Summer Baroque Institute, and UBC's Early Music Ensemble.
As a teacher, Elizabeth emphasizes clear communication and joyful music-making, while drawing her on extensive solo and ensemble experience to help students build strong technical foundations, stylistic awareness, and curiosity across genres. She is passionate about helping students develop a strong technical foundation while fostering a lifelong love of music and its power to inspire, connect, and uplift both performers and audiences.
