Liam Simpson
He / Him
Instructor
Guitar / Bass / Voice / Piano / Theory / Drums / Songwriting / Band Factory
Liam received his Bachelor’s of Applied Music Degree from Vancouver Community College, and studied Classical Guitar and Voice at Douglas College prior. Liam has also played in rock and roll bands since 2010. He believes that progress at all levels depends upon spending time on technique as well as repertoire, as the higher the level of the students technique, the quicker they may achieve fluency in the repertoire they study.
Liam has close to a decade of experience teaching one-to-one lessons, as well as in group settings. This experience includes four years as a clinician in the public school system working in a secondary school guitar class. Some achievements of past and current students include: Acceptance to Classical Guitar performance programs at Douglas College and the University of Victoria. He has prepared students for performances at such venues as the Rickshaw Theatre and the Vogue, as well as preparing students for recording sessions and club tours.
Liam has written and presented concerts of original classical compositions, written and recorded his own full length folk rock album, and worked as a producer, arranger and session player in studio sessions. He has performed at the Hollywood Theatre with Nick Stone and the Gems, and the Orpheum Theatre with the Vancouver Chamber Choir. These experiences have helped Liam as a teacher by showing him the necessary level of preparation to meet a high level of musical expression.
Liam’s philosophy as an instructor is that every practice session should be structured in a way that makes the student look forward to the next time they play their instrument. He structures lessons by bringing in materials that seek to inspire students as well as helping students study music that they are familiar with.
