Michael Robert

He / Him

Instructor

Piano / Voice

With over 15 years of formal training in classical piano, Michael aims to extend his love of music and passion for piano to those that he teaches. He is currently a student in both the Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Education programs at the University of British Columbia, in order to further develop his capacity as a music educator. As a soloist and collaborator, he enjoys exploring a diverse range of music outside of the classical repertoire. He firmly believes that lessons should be shaped by the student’s personal musical interests and goals.

As a performer, Michael has participated frequently in music festivals and competitions around B.C., and has been given opportunities to represent both the North Island and Mid Island regions at the Performing Arts B.C. Provincial Festival. He has been awarded the Adjudicator’s Choice Award at the BCRMTA provincial piano competition (2020). With a love for sharing his music, Michael holds a BCRMTA Gold Community Service Award for his time spent volunteering as an accompanist and performer in his local communities. He is also an award recipient of the Marie Josephine Richard Piano Competition (2015), the Dorothy Brealey Piano Scholarship (2020), and the Keen Halleran Memorial Scholarship (2021).

A positive demeanor paired with sharp-sight reading capabilities makes Michael an adaptable and well-rounded accompanist, with experiences collaborating for string performers, concert choir, musical theater, and church congregation.
